Nobody likes a box office bomb. Alright, maybe that's not true. Some people love seeing giant movies fail miserably. The same, however, cannot be said for the studios behind these mega-pictures, the latest of which The Seventh Son, just opened this weekend to very low numbers. Not only are the numbers disappointing, they're far worse than anyone could have expected. The Seventh Son is Universal-Legendary's latest epic fantasy pic to hit the big screen. It opened this past Friday and preliminary numbers have begun rolling in, revealing its estimated meager $7.1 million dollar tak

“ The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water ” soaked up a massive $56 million at the weekend box office , leaving little remaining for two other new releases, “ Jupiter Ascending ” and “ Seventh Son ,” both of which flopped. “ Jupiter Ascending ,” an ambitious science-fiction fantasy from Andy and Lana Wachowski, eked out $19 million from 3,181 screens, making it the “Matrix” siblings’ third consecutive whiff after “Cloud Atlas” and “Speed Racer.”

Financial analysis of Seventh Son (2014) at the Australia Box Office, including earnings and profitability.  The best-selling new release of the week is Seventh Son, which is a terrible sign. The second best is The Nanny: The Complete Series. I don't know how to react to that. As for the best of the new releases, Magician: The Astonishing Life and Work of Orson Wells (DVD or Blu-ray) is as good as it gets. More Per Theater Chart: Calm Before the Storm. April 28th, 2015. There were no films in the $10,000 club this week and no new releases really came close. The closest was Full Moon in Paris, which rose 58% from last weekend to $7,987, still in one theater.

Pictures) and Seventh Son (from Legendary Pictures and Universal Pictures) opened to painfully low box office this weekend, grossing an estimated $19 million and $7.1 million, respectively. Along with sharing a parade of expensive CG characters and battles (as well as Oscar front-runners camping up as the lead villains), both of these films were not supposed to debut this weekend.  But in an interview with BuzzFeed News, Lana Wachowski, who directed the film with her brother Andy Wachowski, seemed to indicate that the move had at least as much to do with the fact that the film was an original story in a summer saturated with known properties. Universal Pictures. Ben Barnes and Jeff Bridges in Seventh Son. Seventh Son's path to theaters has been even more tortured. The fantasy adventure was initially slated to open two years ago, on Feb. 22, 2013.

“Seventh Son,” starring Ben Barnes, Jeff Bridges and Julianne Moore, fell on its sword with a $7 million three-day debut. That was at the low end ofv erylow expectations for the $90 million fantasy epic and gives Legendary Pictures its second flop in a row. The company that financed the “Dark Knight” and “Hangover” franchises has missed with the first two films it’s released since moving its production deal from Warner Bros. to Universal Pictures.  “Jupiter Ascending” was the No. 1 movie internationally this weekend, opening with $32 million from 65 markets. This is the latest box-office flop for the Wachowski siblings. Their last movie, 2012's " Cloud Atlas ," debuted to $9.6 million. "Seventh Son," a fantasy based on Joseph Delaney's novel " The Last Apprentice: Revenge of the Witch ," has been completed for the past two years. The $95 million Legendary film was also originally supposed to be distributed by Warner Bros. However, Legendary and Warner Bros. ended their eight-year working relationship last June.  "Seventh Son" has made $82 million internationally. Instead, the failure of the two big-budget weekend movies paved the way for Paramount's new "Spongebob" movie, "The Spongebob Movie: Sponge Out of Water" to dominate the weekend. "Seventh Son" moves at a fairly quick pace and has a sense of humor about itself. That doesn't mean it's thrilling, or funny. Just that it's a quickly forgotten pile of junk. Like Blackhat, Seventh Son was developed and shot prior to Legendary’s arrival at Universal. Legendary covers marketing costs, while Uni collects a distribution fee. The financiers are crossing their fingers for better days with Universal’s Jurassic World on June 12, Guillermo del Toro’s horror title Crimson Peak , scheduled for Oct.  I don’t understand why the box office pre-release predictions for both American Sniper and now SpongeBob were so far off. Is there something wrong with the prediction models? Even after Friday actuals were in, the story was that ‘SpongeBob pulls in $35.2 million’ for the weekend.

Our box office wrap-up for the weekend of February 8, 2015 - featuring new releases 'The SpongeBob Movie,' 'Jupiter Ascending,' and more.  The #4 film is new arrival Seventh Son (read our review), which grossed $7.1 million. Like Jupiter Ascending, this fantasy film wasn't expected to be a breakout smash due to it being delayed several times. That said, Universal was certainly hoping for more than this for a debut.

Weekend Box Office: Massive Spongebob Crushes DOA ‘Jupiter Ascending’. Vince Mancini. Senior Editor.  Domestically, Seventh Son (I made Laremy review that one), starring Jeff Bridges did even worse than Jupiter Ascending, much worse, grossing just $7 million. And this with a budget of $90-100 million (God knows where that went). Luckily for it, it earned $26 million in China and has earned $90.7 million worldwide. The US gets accused of exporting a lot of garbage, which is true, but you show me a terrible movie, and I’ll show you a movie that made 70% of its budget overseas. It’s a rich crapestry. This week brings us Matthew Vaughn’s Kingsman: The Secret Service (yay!) and Fifty Shades of Grey
