First Lady Melania Trump has been criticised for her choice of jacket worn on a trip to a migrant child detention centre in Texas. Mrs Trump was spotted in the coat, which featured graffiti writing on the back with the words "I really don't care do u?", as she boarded a plane. Her spokeswoman said "there was no hidden message" in the former fashion model's sartorial choice. The $39 (£29) jacket from Zara caused an uproar on social media. US President Donald Trump later tweeted his wife's coat "refers to the Fake News Media". Skip Twitter post by @re

First lady Melania Trump wore a jacket that read "I DON'T REALLY CARE, DO U?" while on her way to visit immigrant children separated from their parents. USA TODAY Late night hosts blasted First Lady Melania Trump Thursday for her questionable choice of outerwear, a green jacket with "‘I REALLY DON’T CARE. DO U?" printed on the back, as she visited children in immigrant detention facilities in Texas.

Today, when Melania Trump made a rare official trip to visit immigrant children at the Texas border, she boarded the plane wearing a military-inspired jacket from Zara with the words "I REALLY DON'T CARE, DO U?" scrawled on the back. The optics are almost inconceivable, that the First Lady would go visit the immigrant children who have been forcibly separated by her husband's policies, wearing a garment that literally spells out, I DONT CARE. But there it is. Nothing could be clearer.  In May, Melania Trump formally announced that one of her causes would be anti-bullying.

But we have become accustomed to expecting the unexpected from the first lady. Melania has her pick of neutral outerwear, but she shopped for a design with a contrasting printed trim which framed her silhouette as she exited the White House to board Marine One alongside the president.

Melania Trump has been making statements with her stylish outfits as the first lady, but her latest ensemble left some people feeling confused. On a high-humidity 80 degree day, she wore a $4,000 white Gucci wool coat with navy blue accents. Most people would think that the piece is way too warm for such a hot day, but Melania looked comfortable as she smiled for the cameras. The coat, however, was blasted by InStyle, as they claimed it was “just short of boring, saved by white stitching and glint-y gold buttons.” And indeed, the outfit was pretty basic. Melania wore some black heels, as she f

Melania Trump has a wardrobe full of luxury coats from the likes of Balmain, Max Mara and Escada. Yet the US First Lady seems to ignore the sleeves they come with. The former model is routinely seen draping her designer garb over her shoulders, a look favoured by fashion insiders and editors, known as 'coat-slinging'.  In the snap FLOTUS can be seen wearing a $2000 plaid coat from Calvin Klein, or rather not wearing it. "Why does Melania always have to walk around with a jacket on her shoulders? Like put it on or take it off," one user wrote. “Why don't you actually WEAR your coat instead of draping it. You're #NOTBatman !” another wrote.

What was Melania Trump thinking? It was the coat seen 'round the world: pea soup green and faux graffiti scrawled across the back were the words: "I REALLY DON'T CARE, DO U?" The look that would've conjured up Marie Antoinette comparisons on an unremarkable occasion was magnified a multitude when the First Lady wore the $39 2016 Zara jacket on a plane trip to visit detained immigrant children in Texas.  President Donald Trump weighed in with a tweet, using the incident as an opportunity to bash his favorite target: the media. "I REALLY DON'T CARE, DO U?" written on the back of Melania's jacket, refers to the Fake News Media," he tweeted.

Not the workers at Ivanka Trump's Chinese clothing factory, who reportedly get paid around $60 a week. Not Americans making the federal minimum wage, who earn around $15,000 a year if they only have one full-time job (they probably have to have more than one in order to survive). Not you, unless you are fabulously wealthy, in which case congrats.  No, it is not our place to condemn Melania Trump for wearing a jacket so expensive that it actually seems like she got conned. In America, we do not begrudge the rich for their baubles but instead celebrate them in magazine spreads in which they wear outfits that cost as much as our houses.

At the Trumps’ first appearance of the weekend, at a wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery on Thursday, Melania Trump dressed in a military-style coat by Norisol Ferrari. The designer, whose father is a wounded veteran, talked to W.W.D. about dressing Trump and what she thought about the many designers dismayed by her husband’s campaign, who have pledged not to, “I am absolutely opposed to discrimination in any way. I wanted to give her her own voice. Empowering women is all that matters to me. I do not discriminate whether for race, religion, color of skin, sexuality, politica

First lady Melania Trump stepped out in Sicily on Friday wearing a Dolce & Gabbana floral coat with multicolored silk flowers that retails for $51,500.  The head-shaking and tsk-tsking over Melania Trump’s coat calls to mind the outrage and indignation that erupted in 2009 when Michelle Obama wore $540 Lanvin sneakers to a Washington food bank. There’s a big price gap between a pair of designer sneakers and a coat that costs as much as a house in some parts of the country, but the fundamental point is the same: fashion shame.
