It was the 107th edition of the Australian Open, the 51st in the Open Era, and the first Grand Slam of the year. The tournament consisted of events for professional players in singles, doubles and mixed doubles. Junior and wheelchair players competed in singles and doubles tournaments. The 2019 Australian Open tennis tournament is almost upon us. Running from 14 January - 27 January 2019 at Melbourne Park, the top players from around the world will be competing for the largest prize money in the history of the tournament. 10% Increase in 2019 Australian Open Prize Money. Tennis Australia and the Victorian state government recently announced an increase of 10 per cent in the total prize pool for the tournament, climbing from $55 million in 2018 to $60.5 million in 2019.  The top-100 players in men's and women's tennis are expected to compete in Melbourne, including seven-time winner Serena Williams who missed the 2018 tournament after giving birth to her first child. Matches on all courts at the 2019 Australian Open will have electronic line-judging and the 25-second 'serve clock' to prevent players wasting time between serves.

Australian Open 2019 will see another 10% increase in the total prize money pool which will take the total prize money for the entire competition to AUD$60.5 million (USD$4.85m) compared to AUD$55 million offered in 2018.
