Serena Williams is looking great through three rounds of play at the Australian Open. On Saturday in Melbourne, she punched her ticket into the Round of 16 by making short work of Nicole Gibbs, also of the United States. Williams beat Gibbs, 6-1, 6-3, in straight sets. Williams is the second seed in the tournament, trailing Angelique Kerber. She struggled last year despite reaching 22 career Grand Slam titles.  One significant upset on the day saw unseeded American Jennifer Brady take down the 14th-seeded Elena Vesnina. Brady is now into the fourth round after her straight-set, 7-6(4), 6-2, victory. Another big matchup from the women’s singles bracket saw ninth seed Johanna Konta take on the very tough Caroline Wozniacki, the 17th seed. And Konta managed to take her down in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1.

MELBOURNE, Australia — Rafael Nadal had a good, hard look at the future before pulling a few tricks from his past to hold it back — for now. The 14-time Grand Slam winner, still recovering from a couple of months off with an injured left wrist, rallied for a 4-6, 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-2 win over German teenager Alexander Zverev on Saturday to reach the fourth round of the Australian Open.  Grigor Dimitrov and Richard Gasquet didn’t start their third-round match until 11:58 p.m. local time, most likely the latest start for a match at the Australian Open. After grinding through four games in 24 minutes, No. 15 Dimitrov picked up pace and finished off 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 at 2 a.m. — well short of the Grand Slam record 4:34 a.m. finish for the match between Lleyton Hewitt and Marcos Baghdatis in 2008.

Nadal reached the fourth round in Australia for the 11th time with the 6-1, 6-3, 6-1 win, and levelled his career head-to-head record with Dzumhur. The 16-time major winner lost their only previous meeting when he had to retire because of heat-related issues in the third set at Miami in 2016, giving Dzumhur the win that day.  Play can be suspended at the Australian Open if the temperature 40 Celsius (104F) and a combination of factors -- including temperature, humidity and breeze -- reaches an unbearable limit. Alize Cornet, who needed a medical timeout and a doctor to take her blood pressure as she struggled with heat stress in her 7-5, 6-4 third-round loss to Elise Mertens, was among those suggesting the extreme heat policy needs reviewing. "I started to feel dizzy. I was feeling super, super hot.

In the round of 16 on Sunday, the Spanish lefthander will play Diego Schwartzman, who beat Alexandr Dolgopolov in four sets earlier Frida

The 2009 Australian Open champion, who has yet to drop a set, needed one hour and 50 minutes to become the second player to reach the fourth round in Melbourne, matching the retired Stefan Edberg from Sweden and behind Switzerland's Roger Federer, reports Efe. Nadal set the pace from the baseline, clinching the first set in just 22 minutes without facing any break points and seized on two opportunities out of three. Despite conceding his serve once, Nadal managed to win the second set thanks to three breaks out of seven he had. Two breaks were all Nadal needed to seal his first win over D
